Hello Home Church friends. Long time, no see. Hope all of you are well!
Thought I would post a few pics of the trip Jo and I took to see the Vancouver 2010 Olympics.
We had an amazing time! Saw 6 events, 5 in which Canada won 4 Golds and 2 Silvers. Go Canada Go!
Women's Alpine Skiing Qualifiers - the second run got fogged out.
Women's Gold and Silver Medals in Bobsleigh - they flew by so fast! And we saw some incredible crashes - it's amazing the women walked out alive.
Women's Gold Hockey - we were 9 rows from the ice. They played an amazing game. And the energy was phenomenal.
Women's Silver Curling - We just barely missed the gold!
Men's Gold Curling - those flashy Norwegian pants were no match for Team Martin!
And finally, Men's Gold Hockey - way to go, Sid the Kid! When the US tied the game in the last 24 seconds of play, I thought everyone around me was going to have a heart attack. But we won it in the end and it was even sweeter this way. What an unbelievable experience in that arena!
We had such an incredible time. We've never been prouder to be Canadian, and had a lot of fun while sporting our red and white!

A Couple of Pictures from Skating!
Monday, February 1, 2010
Rockwood Home Church
Just an update concerning this Saturday. I checked with Glen Eden in Milton and it appears that there isn't enough snow for tubing. In fact the tube run is closed and there's not much snow in the forecast between now & Saturday. Bummer.
Well, I checked with our neighbours, Andy & Rebecca, and as an alternate we are going skating on their pond.
So, get out your skates and grab a hockey stick, or a chair, if you prefer, and come on out.
Meet at our place first - We figure we can be skating anywhere from 3 to 4:30 and then back to our place for a chili dinner.
Okay? Great!

Help for Haiti
You are all aware of the incredible disaster happening in Haiti right now. You can imagine how shocking this has been to me, having just visited there in October. I am able to relate to the tragedy in a way that I never have before. Normally, these events are always so far away and remote. This one is very real to me.
The mission I visited has basically been spared more of the serious devastation suffered by many of the other primary care-giving institutions, hospitals and other health infrastructures. This makes it even more important for them to be able to offer the life giving care on a continuous basis. This is a very poor country in terrible devastation.
You may be moved to help. If so, please help by giving your funds to established organizations who are experienced in this type of benevolence. Many organizations like World Vision and the Red Cross already have workers in place needing even more help at this time. They will put your funds to work with the most effect.
Here are a couple of links to the Mission of Hope, the organization I visited. The mission staff, both Haitians and non-Haitians, are great people doing their best to help needy people. They have dedicated their skills and their lives to help those less fortunate. I believe this will be an unprecedented opportunity for the Mission to offer help and hope because the regular infrastructure is essentially destroyed. The Hospital of Hope was serving a critical need made even more critical at this time. I highly recommend the Mission of Hope as a valid destination for your gift-giving.

The people of Haiti are just like you and I. I found them to be warm and friendly, very devoted to their families. Haitians are a proud and resilient people, having been dealt challenges in life we cannot fathom. Many will be blessed by your generosity.
Thanks for listening.
Your friend, Rene
