Good morning everyone!  Jane B was lamenting that we won't have a chance to discuss Sunday's excellent presentation by Christa because we've taken a summer break from Home Church.

Then I remembered our blog! So I have started a post based on the HC questions. For those who wish to respond, you may do so. The rest can "eavesdrop" or listen in as the discussion develops and can chime in whenever they get inspired enough or mad enough to say something. :)

Part 3: From the Field to the Party
Our life-long nostalgia, our longing to be reunited with something in the universe from which we feel cut off, to be on the inside of some door which we have always seen from the outside, is no mere neurotic fancy, but the truest index of our real situation.
– C.S. Lewis

I thought Christa had a good assessment of the brothers...
Younger Brother = self-indulgence; Older Brother = self-sufficiency.

Here's couple of Qs off the HC sheet that I thought we should start in on. Anyone want to be first? Don't be bashful!!

Look to the Book…
After reading the parable again from Luke 15:11-32.......
What similarities does the younger brother have with the older brother? What are their differences?
How does the Father deal with his two sons the same/differently?

3. The younger brother comes to the end of himself and enjoys the embrace of his Father.
What issues does the older brother have to overcome in order to come to the end of himself?
What is the older brother losing out on if he doesn't join the party?

5. Read  1 John 3:1  and Galatians 3:26-4:7.
How do these passages describe our identity (what it is and what it isn’t)?
What parts of your identity do you cling too tightly to?
How does this get in the way of following Jesus?
How you can support each other?

Rockwood Home Church, Aug 2011 Update

Hi Everyone! Rene here. Hope everyone has had a relaxing and restful summer.

This is a note to keep everyone posted on our planned current events and a new development concerning the Rockwood Home Church.

First: Cheri & Bernie have agreed to continue hosting our HC into September and beyond. Wow! That's great. (They have been doing a great job of hosting through the summer. It was fun to sit out in the back yard through those hot summer evenings. Thanks guys!!)

Second: Here's our line up for Tuesday evenings for the next few weeks as we ramp up to the new Home Church fall season:

Aug 16 -- Regular Service Project at St Christopher's (7:00pm, 662 Guelph Line)

Aug 23 -- Last weekly HC lesson re: One Church at the Singbeil's (7:00pm, 605 Cumberland, 905-634-2772)

Aug 30 -- No HC meeting

Sep 06 -- No HC meeting

Sep 13 -- Potluck BBQ at the Kooistra's (6:30pm, 5469 Walkers Line, 905-335-3799)

Sep 20 -- Regular Service Project at St Christopher's (7:00pm, 662 Guelph Line)

Sep 27 -- First regular meeting of the new Cumberland Home Church at the Singbeil's (7:00pm, 605 Cumberland, 905-634-2772)

Third: Also want to thank everyone for pitching in on Sundays at the cinema site throughout the summer. Set-up & take-down are critical to how we roll and I know the site coordinators (Rebecca & Greg & others) very much appreciate your involvement and participation when called on.

Well, that's it for now. Summer's almost over so make the best of it. And remember Hebrews 12:

1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

Lots of love,
Rene & Clare
